NDAA: False alarm!

So, I read about the NDAA problems, and decided to take a look at it. Admittedly, I was rather panicked about it, but after spending a few HOURS searching through the 900+ pages of the bill before being reminded that PDFs actually can be searched for specific phrases I found the offending section, Subtitle D-Detainee matters, on page 426.

Essentially, it gives the military authorization to indefinitely hold any person suspected of supporting terrorism without trial. The real panic though comes from the fact that this vague wording would seem to apply to American citizens, violating our rights.

All is not lost however; as in subsection E on page 428 it states unambiguously
“(e) AUTHORITIES.—Nothing in this section shall be
11 construed to affect existing law or authorities, relating to
12 the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident
13 aliens of the United States or any other persons who are
14 captured or arrested in the United States.”

So, no this bill WILL NOT permit a US citizen, or even legal immigrant to be permanently silenced by making up a ‘you are a terrorist’ excuse. So, lets all take a deep breath and-PREPARE TO BE PISSED OFF

Because those clips you saw by now of our representatives arguing over this bit of the bill? They could have cleared it up instantly by citing this subsection.. IF ANY OF THEM HAD ACTUALLY READ IT. This is PROOF that our representatives are debating over and signing into effect a bill that NONE OF THEM HAVE FULLY READ. What the hell? Seriously What. The. Hell.

You have wrong about that. There is a passage in some amendment, in the end i guess it was, that says:”Unless we say so”.

Have you seen that yourself, or were you told that it was there? It says quite specifically that it does not apply to citizens and legal residents on page 428, in subsection e, and again on page 430 subsection b.
