Tear Update and some other thoughts

Finished a rough sketch of how the battle screen will be laid out. You can find it here

When I had asked how one would best go about building a team without offending people; apparently the people over at the penny arcade forums got offended. Those guys are MEAN; not all of them of course, but the most.. noticeable of them were. One thing that stood out was being railed on over my artwork; not even bothering to give any helpful advice at all. When I pointed out that doing so is not constructive criticism like they wanted to pretend, they claimed my artwork was so bad that there was no advice that could be given.

Apparently the moderator who eventually locked the thread agreed with that person; and left me on a sour note telling me to learn what constructive criticism is. As irony would have it, when I went to the artists corner there was a sticky on giving helpful advice and listed as a specific example of what is NOT constructive criticism is actually “your art is too bad for me to give any advice…”

The worst part about people who give advice in an overly harsh manner is there is no way to respond to it. If you follow the advice and succeed, they take credit for giving you the advice. If you take their advice and fail, nobody cares. If you give up, they claim you didn’t really have the conviction anyway, and if you work extra hard to prove them wrong they claim their harshness was what pushed you to succeed.

I personally don’t like any of those options, so I’m going to just do things my way. I’m not going to put the project on the back-burner for years. I’m going to continue working out the details of this game while I work on my art, once I have the story arcs and layouts and artwork for the game finished, I’ll work on piecing it together and coding it. Could be a little while but I’ll be keeping the blog and the project page updated with my progress.
